Initially, the family living here believed there was little hope of restoring their orangery back to its best and having it offer the insulation it used to. That was until they decided on a tiled roof upgrade. This partly prefabricated roofing system, with its smart, sleek, tiles and slates, has done an incredible job of reviving the entire feel of the interior, in the best possible way. A total of three glass panels were incorporated into the new roof as it was felt that was the number needed to get enough light coming through to the orangery. Unobtrusive spotlights were also fitted at the time of installing the tiled roof to ensure the orangery can remain well-lit after dark.
Whilst upgrading the roof and modernising the orangery, it also made sense to add new windows and doors, which have a very authentic wood effect to make them timber-like in their appearance. There is rarely a day goes by in the spring and summer months when the outdoor patio doesn’t get used now that French doors are also a permanent fixture in the orangery. Much of the impact the tiled roof has had on the orangery is down to the intelligent glass panels.
